The Summer Science Program (SSP) starts with a five-week intensive summer program designed for incoming first-year students who are excited about science and who are from groups historically underrepresented in STEM fields and/or who are first-generation college students. Our past participants come from a diverse range of backgrounds and preparations in STEM fields, and more than anything, a commitment to participating fully in the academic and community-building aspects of the program are key to a rewarding experience.

During the 5 weeks, Mon-Fri mornings are spent in classes, and there are 2 days of afternoon chemistry labs each week. This intensive experience is often quite a change from a high school experience and many alumni of the program have highlighted experiencing the pace of Williams' academic experience as a valuable aspect of participating in SSP. Much of the outside-the-classroom programming and mentoring is done by our student leaders, the SSP Tutors.

Program faculty serve as first-year academic advisors, and after the summer program, participants in SSP benefit from workshops and programming throughout the academic year that support academic achievement, promote engagement in research opportunities at Williams and elsewhere, facilitate mentorship by peers and faculty, and allow ongoing academic and professional development opportunities throughout your Williams College career.

To apply for SSP 2022, please complete this application. To receive full consideration, please complete your applications by May 3 (April 11 for ED).

If you have any questions or comments, or if you are eligible and have not received an invitation to participate in SSP, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Professor Christopher Goh, Director, Summer Science Program.
